While candle gift baskets are always a good thing to give someone, you should remember some safety tips. It would be better and nicer that you also inform the person you are giving a candle basket some of these tips.

- Always keep an eye on a burning candle. Burning candles should be within sight. When exiting a room or you are about to go to sleep, extinguish the burning candles first.

- Do not burn a candle on anything (or nearer anything) that can easily catch fire. Keep candles that are burning away from items like bedding, carpets, furniture drapes, books flammable decorations, paper, among others.

- Keep the candles out of reach, especially from children or pets. Do not put burning candles on places where children or pets (or anyone for that matter) can easily knock them over.

- Make sure that you read and follow carefully all instructions of the manufacturer.

- Candlewicks should be trimmed to one-fourth inch every time before you start burning. Crooked or long wicks can cause uneven and incessant burning and dripping.

- There should always be candleholders that can be used in holding candles. These candleholders should be specifically made to hold candles. Holders should be sturdy, heat resistant, and are large enough in containing any melted wax or drips. Make sure that candleholders are placed on surfaces that are stable and heat resistant.

- Keep candles that are lighted away from vents, air currents, and drafts. Staying burning candles away from them will help avoid uneven and rapid burning, smoking as well as excessive dripping. Drafts can cause also papers or lightweight curtains to be blown into the candle's flame, easily catching fire. Ceiling fans actually can cause the drafts.

- Make sure that the wax pool is free of matches, wick trimmings, and debris.

- Candles should not be burned longer that what the manufacturer said.
- Candles should be always burned in a room that is well-ventilated.

- Extinguish the candle's flame if it has become too close to the container or candleholder. To be safe, stop the flame when there are only 2 inches of candle wax remaining (or one-half inch of the container or holder). Doing this will also avoid probable heat damage to the surface and prevent containers made of glass from breaking or cracking.
